Wilburton 10th College Tour at East Central University

Wilburton 10th grade GEAR UP students recently toured East Central University in Ada, OK. Students took a walking tour of the campus and learned about many aspects of campus life. College tours are an important part of GEAR UP as students gain a first-hand–look at life on a college campus.

Students began in the Bill S. Cole University Center which houses a snack bar, pool and workout facilities. Next, students were lead through the Memorial Student Union. The guides directed the students to the locations of various residence halls, the Kerr Activity Center, and Norris Field. Students walked by the Charles F. Spencer Administration Building; James O. Danley Hall; Faust Hall; Horace Mann; Physical and Environmental Science Center; Fentem Hall; Science Hall; and the Education Building. The tour guides explained which classes were in each building. Students were shown the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center and the new Chickasaw Business and Conference Center. The tour ended with lunch in the cafeteria.

“The students really enjoyed the tour,” said GEAR UP Education Coordinator Melissa Juarez. “Students really like visiting various college campuses. It’s a great way for them to see what is available for their postsecondary education.”
